External Operations Supply Chain Leader
Hunt Valley, MD
Organization & Role Overview
In the last five years, Coty doubled in size to $8B in revenue with the acquisition of P&G's beauty business and is now launching Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian beauty products. Its Luxury and Consumer Beauty product lines compete as market leaders and top contenders for market share. While established and large by most standards, Coty operates with a start-up mentality to foster ownership, agility and results delivery. This presents the opportunity to play a major role in driving business success in a dynamic environment.
As a critical element of its operating strategy, Coty leverages the use of third-party manufacturers (TPMs) to increase innovation, speed-to-market, and capital/cost efficiency. The External Operations (EXO) Supply Chain Leader (SCL) is responsible for supply chain results for a group of TPMs in the North America region.
The SCL has single point accountability for all operational matters at our TPMs and is responsible for maintaining and improving results. Key result areas include Customer Service, Responsiveness, Quality, Supply Assurance, Cost, Cash and Compliance. The SCL also plays a key role in the delivery of new product initiatives, working with project teams on design options, capacity analysis and supply chain design.
Role Description
The EXO Supply Chain leader is responsible for TPM performance and the integration of Coty's work across Procurement, Planning, QA, Finance, Initiative Management, and R&D, ensuring Coty partners effectively with each TPM to deliver the needed business objectives
. The SCL uses a number of processes and tools to manage results and coordinate resources. This work includes the development and use of supply chain operating strategies and the establishment of Site Level Execution Agreements (SLEAs) with our TPMs. Results are monitored through daily direction setting meetings with Planning and the use of a monthly scorecard review system. Loss Analysis and Value Stream Mapping are used to identifying savings opportunities for cost, cash, and lead time. Continuous Improvement work is central to the role as a means to improve supplier capability, work processes, and organization results. Finally, the Supply Chain Leader partners with Procurement to shape sourcing strategies and lead the execution of supplier moves and qualifications.
The role is based in Coty's Hunt Valley, MD office. Some travel is possible each month, typically up to three days, as necessary for occasional face-to-face meetings with TPMs and Coty partners.
Good candidates for this role will possess a strong set of operational leadership skills that include: leading and developing teams, standard-setting, communication, problem-solving, project management, and job control. Leadership experience in manufacturing, along with working with external interfaces to get results, is valuable background to have for this role. Experience working in or with production planning is helpful. Knowledge of additional supply chain functions is beneficial as well.
Key Result Areas and Main Tasks/Duties/Responsibilities
Customer Service
- The Supply Chain Leader has the responsibility to ensure the TPM executes the production plan with the agility necessary to deliver the Supply Plan on-time and in-full. The Planning Hub resources (Site Integrated Planners and Initiative Planners) provide data and analysis of potential, imminent and actual fill rate issues. The Supply Chain Leader is alerted of critical issues and will participate in problem solving as needed. If the fill rate issue is due to operational execution, the Supply Chain Leader owns the gap analysis and works with support functions and the TPM to resolve the issue and prevent reoccurrence.
Cost, Cash, Agility and BCP
- The Supply Chain Leader is focused on capability building that drives and sustains results improvements across cost, cash and service. Work to support this can include Loss analysis, Value Stream Mapping, Capacity Analysis, Business Continuity Planning, and Supply Network Design (SND). In the area of initiatives and SND, the SCL partners with Initiative Management and Procurement to identify prospective TPMs, assess capability and align on sourcing decisions.
TPM Supply Chain Scorecard
- The Supply Chain Leader is accountable for the operational and performance results of the TPM as identified in the TPM Supply Chain scorecard. The business support functions provide input to the scorecard; the Supply Chain leader drives the review and the plan to address performance gaps to build the overall TPM capability. Support organizations and the TPM may own areas of any action plan; the Supply Chain Leader ensures that a viable action plan is developed and is being worked to deliver the desired business results. Formal scorecard reviews are recommended for key Supply Chains, at the frequency agreed to in the SLEA.
TPM / Coty Interface
- Ensure the successful on-boarding of new TPMs and coordinate the work of all Coty functions at the TPM. Serve as the overall single point of contact for the TPM to resolve issues and align on changes. Manage boundaries and lead priority setting to avoid conflicting direction and work overload at the TPM. These activities include Supply Chain visits requested by other organizations (Product Development, Engineering, Procurement, etc.) and coordinating work priorities. The Supply Chain Leader needs to be informed about all Coty activities at the TPM. Major activities being scheduled by other functions (like quality audits scheduled by Quality) should be communicated to the Supply Chain Leader for overall coordination with other Supply Chain activities. The SCL should be informed, and support resolution, of any work process or execution issue raised by either the Coty or TPM team.
