Position Information
The City of Brentwood is seeking a collaborative, highly motivated and customer service â€oriented individual to fill the position of Purchasing Agent in the Public Works Department. Under general supervision of the Fleet/Facilities Maintenance Manager, the Purchasing Agent performs a variety of duties involved in the procurement of automotive, truck and equipment parts, municipal infrastructure supplies, bulk fuel orders and delivery coordination. This position maintains and oversees the daily operation of a warehouse, which contains a wide variety of City supplies, parts and materials; as well as performs shipping and receiving, warehouse management and purchasing duties for the warehouse, and related duties as assigned.
This candidate must be coachable and possess a positive attitude, willingness to learn, ability to communicate with public/staff, and fit into a team environment, which is key to the Division’s success.

Qualifications
Education and Experience Guidelines
- Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education/Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience:
Two years of increasingly responsible storekeeping, inventory, or warehouse operations experience involving maintenance construction or automotive parts.
License or Certificate:
Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, Powered Industrial Truck Certification prior to completion of probation.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, Powered Industrial Truck Trainer Permit prior to completion of probation.

The examination process will consist of: Review of applications for minimum qualifications for the position and to ensure all materials have been submitted.
Written Exam - Applicants passing the review process will be invited to participate in the multiple choice written exam tentatively scheduled for the week of 3/28/22
The examination will cover elements of the knowledge and abilities identified in the job description.
All applicants that pass the written exam will be placed on the eligible list which is good for at least 6 months and may be extended up to an additional 18 months. This eligible list will be used by the City of Brentwood to fill all current and future openings in this classification as long as the list is active.
