The team is responsible for ensuring that our traders can trade global markets 24/7 without disruption or loss of earnings. We work hand in hand with a network or partners and suppliers to ensure that trading systems and connected environments are operate optimally. We work with a rapid understanding of user needs and technology changes with clear accountability for service delivery.

You will be responsible to ensure end-to-end service availability and resolve escalated urgent/complex issues to ensure business continuity for applications in Shell “Nature and Environment Solutions” and “Data and Decision Making” portfolio within the overall Shell Energy.

About Shell Energy “Nature and Environmental Solutions”

Shell officially launched at the start of January, combining the Environmental Products and Nature Based Solutions businesses.

NBS comprise all activities related to the conservation and restoration of natural ecosystems – such as forests, agriculture, grasslands, wetlands and blue carbon – to lower concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Environmental Products Trading Business (EPTB) is a recognised leader in environmental trading, with over a decade of experience in all key global carbon emission markets.

What’s the role?

The Sr. IT Operations Engineer is a key role responsible for supporting delivery of day-to-day application and infrastructure services, according to agreed Service Levels and/or Operate Level Agreements ensuring business continuity. The role also requires review of application functionality/landscape for continuous improvement and frequent engagement with business, supplier, natural teams and product teams in Shell Energy.

The position provides an opportunity to work on a wide spectrum of applications developed in new technologies such as Azure data functions and market standard products that bring competitive advantage to trading

Your key accountabilities:


Pivotal role as the primary and escalation focal for Shell energy trading applications.
Responsible for maintaining the seamless operational delivery of applications and their related back-end technology
Liaise with multiple stakeholders including Business Manager and Applications Managed Service providers to remove blockers, drive solutions and meet business need
Support transition of applications/products and enhancements to delivery support.
Drive incident / problem resolution with internal and external partners
Steer and embed compliance and audit activities
Track operational cost and assist in budgeting
Maintain and advance operational run books, guidelines, and procedures
Represent the team at project/ planning meetings, knowledge sharing forums and in service delivery engagements
Coordinate disaster recovery plans and test execution for critical applications, including application maintenance, infrastructure landscape documentation and document failover


What we need from you

We are keen to hear from candidates with:

Essential requirements


Graduate or Post Graduate degree in Information Technology or similar certification.
Substantial experience in managing and maintaining Azure cloud, involving various Azure cloud services and components such as Azure Data Factory, Data Bricks, Azure Databases, Data Lake Analytics, Function App, Web App, Azure Cosmos DB, SQL
Knowledge about Data Analytics and Data modelling tools and techniques used to understand and analyze how an organization collect, update, and store data.
Experienced in IT support & understanding of trading lifecycle of the Trading process - from trade capture, through scheduling the commodity for delivery.
Exposure to application development and technologies mainly in Azure data functions / Reporting.
Knowledge in any trading business domain: Energy/Gas/Power/Commodities/Financial
Strong IT service management, business partnering, stakeholder management, analysis and problem-solving skills, good communication skills


Technical Skills


Hands on experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, Concourse, Harness, or other similar tools
Experience with general scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript, React JS, Perl, Bash or other similar tools.


Desirable Skills


Experience with Container or VM orchestration tools like Kubernetes or OpenStack or another similar tool.
Familiarity with Database management tools such as SQL, MySQL, MongoDB
Familiarity with any reporting tools such as BI etc.

Knowledge in trading business domain - ETRM (Energy Trading Risk Management)/CTRM (Commodity Trading Risk Management)/Aligne/Endur
