Position Details:

The Packaging and Additive Planner is a pivotal role in the Lubricants organization. The role is a key interface between suppliers, Contracting and Procurement and other JV materials schedulers. The Packaging & Additive Planner has clear accountability driving supplier performance under the contract management framework with specific focus on HSSE, On-Time-In-Full (OTIF) delivery performance and value delivery on COGS.

The purpose of the Packaging and Additive Planner role is to be the liaison with JV materials schedulers to develop and execute robust supply plans that ensure timely and cost optimal supply of Packaging and Additives to meet production requirements within optimal inventory levels, thus he/she has clear accountability for cost and inventory management. The Packaging and Additive Planner owns and controls the key commercial levers to achieve these deliverable.

The Packaging and Additives Planner will ensure that suppliers meet their contractual obligations and are delivering on-time-in-full, according to agreed delivery standards on HSSE and quality.

He/ She will be responsible to manage supplier relationships as a contract holder in close co-operation with Contracting and Procurement, and drive supplier performance to achieve the highest possible level of service at an optimised cost to support the Lubricants business in South Africa.

The role is tactically focused on short-medium term however also expected to maintain a strategic outlook on future developments in the global packaging and additive landscape.

The successful candidate will be joining the Supply Chain Planning organization at a crucial and exciting time during the optimization phase of its Journey to Excellence, enabling the Supply Chain to become a source of competitive advantage for profitable growth.

Key Accountability :


Ensure full supplier compliance with Shell HSSE policies and requirements; Shell Life Saving Rules, product quality and materials handling standards
Agree ordering and replenishment processes of packaging and additives with suppliers, Joint Venture materials schedulers
Maintain supply demand balance with most recent and accurate data to ensure that Joint Venture and suppliers maintain agreed stock levels
Manage all packaging and additives stocks within target at all times for positive impact of working capital
Agree and maintain Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with suppliers
Organise, prepare and hold regular Supplier Performance Reviews and Contract Performance Reviews (CPRs) as contract holder.
Collaborate with Contracting and Procurement to develop and drive mutually agreed value delivery plans with suppliers, focused on sustainable cost savings
Act as escalation point for Blendcor Joint Venture on Corrective Action Requests (CARs) and support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of non-OTIFs to develop sustainable corrective and preventative actions
Consolidate and develop medium-term demand, and generate forecast to communicate to suppliers, including gathering information from the business that will impact the forecast not already reflected in the Supply and Operations.
Participate in the Supply and Operations process to provide input on packaging and additive demand/supply imbalances, visibility and cost of short / over supply mitigations
Participate and contribute proactively in Lubes Operations Forum to collaborate with other function for enhancement of integrated business value
Support the implementation of cost effective product formulations to optimize COGS (by collaborating with Product Live Management and ensuring security of supply for additives required to realize such formulations)
Collaborate with Contracting and Procurement to negotiate most favorable packaging and prices from suppliers
Manage monthly packaging and additive pricing and provide input monthly
Support in short-term resolution of supply issues and Short Team Event Management (STEM) and coordinate effective remedial actions with relevant functional teams
Collaborate with PLM and other planning functions to seamlessly execute BCIs and BCWs

A Bachelor’s Degree preferable in Logistics, Supply Chain or Industrial Engineering
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Supply Chain/Sourcing or Logistics Management
Supply chain planning knowledge and experience required
Good inventory and forecasting experience required
Contract management experience essential
Proven ability in running complex analyses
Track record of solving complex problems
Experience in building and maintaining internal and external stakeholder relationships
Proven ability to manage diverse stakeholder needs, at different organizational levels
Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results under pressure
GSAP user knowledge essential
