The Rail Sourcing Optimization Manager will work with the US Land Logistics Sourcing Team, Business Line Managers, Finance Managers, Legal Counsel and Rail logistics service providers to manage the Rail Fleet, Execution of new and/or existing contractual relationships.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Promote, Create and Lead (as a member of the USL Supply Chain Line Manager Team) internal consulting initiatives with Business Lines Managers on vision, supply demand and best position Rail Ecosystem to SLB evolving footprint.
Champion Rail initiatives by aligning business managers and/or stakeholders, supply chain managers and Rail third-party (3rd) vendors to help support SLB’s “Leading Rail” vision and way of working.
Manage and lead the rail strategic sourcing initiatives which include understanding supply demands, rail current planning cycles, market trends and impact to SLB business.
Developing sourcing strategies and execution including RFP initiatives, bid analysis and evaluation, service provider selection and contract negotiations.
Manage a Rail portfolio with an approximate spend of $25MM-$35MM per year with approximately seven hundred (700) railcars.
Develop optimization Rail strategies including Fleet right-sizing (short-term vs multi-year planning), understating of internal facility and third-party facility footprint to promote brown field and green field studies.
Act as a liaison and effectively aligning commercial strategy with internal business partners and external services providers.
Managing vendor alignment and performance to business objectives, goals, relationship, contract and/or agreement.
Monitor key performance indicators (KPI) that ensure compliance, operational excellence, cost leadership and improvement initiatives.
Lead change implementation for extended system improvements or other logistics projects.
Support freight cost management objectives and develop performance reports for review with the Logistics Sourcing Manager.
Identify frequency and cause of service failures and work with the Logistics Sourcing Manager towards a path to resolutions and alignment.
Support process improvement efforts overall across the Logistics Sourcing Portfolio; although focused on Rail portfolio per se, understanding and working alongside the Trucking (FTL) Sourcing Manager to best position the transportation portfolio across US Land Geo Unit.
Communicates with customers, managers, logistics service providers and other interested parties in a professional and respectful manner.
May be assigned other duties, in addition to, or in lieu of those described above, according to the needs of the business and/or company.
Qualifications and Experience:
8 - 10 years’ experience in Supply Chain, Rail logistics, and/or other procurement and sourcing transportation purchasing related experience with prior knowledge and understanding of the Rail industry.
A Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s Degree or MBA preferred.
Excellent negotiating skills, good judgment & results orientation.
Must demonstrate admirable interpersonal and communication skills with all levels of the organization, both oral and written.
Rail commercial acumen and business understanding are required for this role.
Demonstratable ability to perform in a fast-paced environment that requires rapid decision-making and immediate impact on business results.
Results-driven, patient with a healthy ambition to support team goals.
Experience with ERP applications such as SAP is desired.
