Manager, Lab Operations

opportunity at their facility in Seattle, WA

Purpose:

The primary purpose of Lab Operations Manager is to provide high efficiency, proactive support for all labs across our Universal Cells facility. This position will work closely with the Lab Ops team and key Research, Clinical Gene Editing and Process Development team stakeholders, with the ability to adjust direction in response to shifting priorities in order to meet the needs of the company and business functions.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Generates performance metrics and presents routinely for internal customer feedback from Team Lead and identification of continuous improvement opportunities in overall management of UCells labs.

Develops laboratory guidelines; maintains procedures; and/or evaluates new materials and equipment.

Supports good laboratory upkeep and regulatory compliance, keeping work practices and standard operating procedures current.

Oversees lab supplies and chemical inventory, equipment utilization, and waste streams in collaboration with lab users and EHS.

Responsible for ensuring proper stocking and organization of laboratory supplies for assigned laboratory rooms with materials, which may include, stocking and preparing reagents, consumables, personal protective equipment, and various other lab related supplies.

Works closely with Materials Management team for inventory and supply management.

In coordination with Facilities, coordinates and communicates scheduling and status for moves, equipment and activities related to lab equipment relocation, maintenance, set-up, etc.

Develops and trains team members on relevant SOPs, as required for the job and assigned laboratory room. Trains team members on equipment usage and lab practices.

Monitors lab utilities and equipment, ensures cleanliness, maintenance and calibration needs are met; Works with facilities to ensure safety, regulatory, and quality requirements are met in lab environments; Maintains compliance with lab certifications and local requirements.

Acts as liaison and communicates regularly with immediate supervisor, lab staff and Team Leaders, as needed.

Acts as a liaison with Environmental, Health and Safety to ensure safe and efficient work environment for team members.

Organizational Context:

This position reports to the Director of Operations and Facilities.

Responsible for hiring and training team members, assigns, directs, and evaluates their work, and identifies key growth areas for team. Provides opportunities and feedback that support their development.

Leads, inspires and sets goals for team to create a cross-functional, service-oriented and dynamic lab support team.

Creates an environment of mutual trust and support by encouraging team member participation, engagement and builds team unity.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or related field

3-5 years prior experience in a laboratory operations management

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Must be able to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off-shifts, holiday, and weekend work assignments as needed.

Strong work ethic with a passion for working in a fast-paced, dynamic and diverse work environment

Ability to exercise sound judgment, tact, diplomacy, integrity and professionalism in all interactions.

Ability to work independently without significant oversight or instruction to achieve results with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Proven track record of excellent judgment, problem resolution, teamwork, some budgeting and/or excel skills, decision-making skills, and the ability to work under pressure required.

Proficient in MS Office Suite

Preferred:

Familiar with GLPs related to lab operations.

Facilities planning and coordination experience.

Working Conditions:

Remote work from certain states may be permitted following Astellas' Responsible Flexibility Guidelines.

This role is a hands-on laboratory-based position that requires onsite work.
