Many of our clients are trying to keep up with companies based solely on an interconnected supply chain; we modernize their supply chains using artificial intelligence, machine learning and connected products resulting in a competitive asset for the entire organization.

The role

– Smart Factory @ Wichita Technical Manager

Deloitte and Wichita State University have partnered to create an immersive and cutting-edge experience center at The Smart Factory @ Wichita. The innovative space will be designed for customized, interactive client experiences, and will be furnished with Industry 4.0 technologies – the application of physical and digital technologies from, startups and leading manufacturing hardware and software solution providers, in pursuit of enhanced performance and value (however defined).

The Smart Factory @ Wichita team is currently seeking an experienced, hands-on Technical Manager to own the design integration and daily operations for The Smart Factory @ Wichita facility and its immersive environment. This role will report directly to the Supply Chain & Network Operations Offering senior leadership and work closely with teams across the organization to deliver an immersive experience for our clients, alliances, sponsors and partners. This role is self-directed, providing autonomy over the project management process as well as the application of technology throughout the experience center and the smart factory floor. Additionally, the Technology Manager will assist with coordinating, customizing, and leading client / visitor tours.

The ideal candidate has a combination of manufacturing / supply chain operational and client facing experience. This candidate should be a seasoned, dynamic leader and experienced project manager with a passion for creativity and strong working knowledge in master planning, design, engineering, production systems, project management, and the application of manufacturing technologies. Specific professional experience in manufacturing, technology development, and project management are essential.

This role is permanently based in Wichita, Kansas

Work you’ll do

Daily Operations – Manage all technical and operational aspects of the experience center and factory floor to ensure tour readiness.

Facilitate the implementation of additional advanced technologies to demonstrate Industry 4.0 connected assets on the production line and within the experience center

Build a variety of automated traditional and next generation manufacturing capabilities

Manage the installation, operations, and maintenance of all levels of the smart factory solutions “stack” that delivers continuous connectedness, including establishing service level agreements (SLAs) with vendors / donors and ensuring facility protocols are followed

Oversee factory floor and facility systems including machine maintenance and testing and building and grid systems

Establish standard equipment operating procedures and job aids to train other staff members

Define clear business objectives and guide the work of others using strong problem-solving skills to address complex service challenges

Coordinate staff assignments and workflow considering an individual’s strengths and the needs of the business; identify and create teams/groups to effectively deliver seamless support and coverage for on-site activities

Monitor various reporting tools to ensure team members’ compliance with policies and procedures and update various management tools and applications regularly

Support day-of activities for tours of The Smart Factory @ Wichita, including speaking about Industry 4.0 technologies and applications

Oversee factory master planning and ensure material availability for operations'

Maintenance and Safety

– Responsible for overseeing all aspects of equipment and facility maintenance as well as establishing and maintaining adherence to safety regulations.

Create, optimize and oversee preventive maintenance activities

Oversee routine inspections of facilities and equipment

Maintain maintenance records and manage budgeting and forecasting for routine maintenance including contractor / subcontractor scheduling and coordination

Coordinate storage and management of spare parts

Establish and maintain service level agreements (SLAs) as well as technical requirements with vendors / donors / OEMs

Organize safety programs and prepare relevant policies / procedures and advise employees and clients / visitors on how to minimize and avoid risks / hazards

Lead machinery and equipment safety inspections

Troubleshooting

– Responsible for troubleshooting any factory or facility equipment failures or downtime events.

Conduct root cause failure analysis when necessary, plus own response planning and coordination with any 3rd party troubleshooting / repairs

Establish and maintain OEM / supplier contact list and failure response procedures

Responsible for equipment control logic configuration and issue resolution

Relationship & People Development

– Serve as a role model and primary counselor to team members.

Create an environment that builds accountability for and commitment to meeting objectives; build trust, confidence, and credibility with team members and external stakeholders, which includes the ability to exercise discretion when dealing with privileged, personal or confidential topics

Mentor, coach, and assist in the development of team members

Meet regularly with team members to understand issues and assess workload, service challenges, and provide continuous, ongoing performance feedback

Understand and assess team member skill levels to recommend appropriate training and professional development; counsel and motivate team members to capitalize on their strengths and improve development areas

Serve as the face of Deloitte on the campus to engage students and staff, build relationships, create positive interactions with our academic partners

Qualifications

Required:

Experience in manufacturing operations including software and hardware prototyping tools

Direct experience implementing Industry 4.0 technologies, both in the context of strategy and mechanical application

Experience managing the maintenance and/or repair of the technologies showcased in the experience center and factory floor

Executive level experience

Expertise in manufacturing enterprise systems such as enterprise resource planning, product lifecycle management, manufacturing operations management, manufacturing execution systems, supervisory control and data acquisition and building automation system as well as control systems and automation technologies

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship now or at any time

Preferred:

Ability to solve complex problems, demonstrate critical thinking skills, and apply supply chain knowledge to smart factory concepts

Ability to effectively communicate through a virtual environment and is comfortable leading and speaking in front of medium to large groups

Familiar with a wide variety of basic manufacturing processes including machining, stamping, injection molding, etc.

Basic knowledge of digital manufacturing technologies such as digital twin, artificial intelligence, and machine learning
