About the Job:

As the Director of Inventory Performance and Optimization at Rent the Runway, you will play a critical role in ensuring efficient inventory management and optimizing the performance of our inventory in a circular economy. You will lead a team responsible for inventory performance, inventory ROI and exit strategies, onsite financial performance and overall inventory health. The ideal candidate has a strong analytical mindset, exceptional problem-solving skills, and a passion for driving operational excellence.

What You’ll Do:

Develop and execute strategies to maximize inventory productivity, minimize stock-outs, and reduce excess inventory.

Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Merchandising, Operations, and Supply Chain, to ensure inventory availability meets customer demand while optimizing inventory turn and profitability.

Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and develop reporting mechanisms to track and measure inventory performance, identifying areas of improvement and implementing corrective actions.

Drive inventory optimization initiatives, including assortment rationalization, markdown management, and replenishment strategies.

Conduct in-depth analysis of inventory trends, sales data, and customer insights to identify opportunities and risks, recommending actionable strategies to enhance inventory performance.

Lead inventory forecasting and allocation processes to ensure the right products are available at the right locations to meet customer demand while minimizing costs and maximizing sell-through.

Utilize advanced forecasting techniques and inventory management systems to improve accuracy and efficiency in inventory planning and replenishment.

Continuously evaluate and optimize inventory processes, systems, and tools to enhance operational effectiveness and scalability.

Manage and develop a team providing coaching, guidance, and performance feedback to foster professional growth.

About You:

Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Finance, Operations Research, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.

Proven experience (8 years) in inventory management, demand planning, or related roles, preferably in the retail or e-commerce industry.

Strong analytical skills and experience working with large datasets. Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL) and inventory management software.

Solid understanding of inventory planning concepts, demand forecasting techniques, and inventory optimization strategies.

Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience in managing and developing high-performing teams.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and influence stakeholders at various levels.

Detail-oriented mindset with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and drive results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Knowledge of fashion retail and familiarity with the latest trends in the industry is a plus.

Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for process improvement and operational efficiencies.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $184,000.00 - $230,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held. This position is also eligible for equity compensation.
