Regeneron Pharmaceuticals names new GM for manufacturing operations
Drug-discovery major company, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc., has appointed Daniel Van Plew as its new general manager of manufacturing operations. Van Plew previously served as executive vice president, research and development, technical operations at Crucell Holland, a Dutch vaccine company. He will replace Randall Rupp, who is retiring after serving the company for 16 years. Continuously expanding its clinical development pipeline and seeking approval to commercialize its first product, the company expects to gain leverage from Van Plew's appointment. With corporate headquarters in Tarrytown, NY, Regeneron is working on developing treatments for cancer, inflammatory diseases, and eye diseases. The company's manufacturing operations are in Rensselaer.
Johnson & Johnson slashes operations, cuts workforce
Johnson & Johnson has announced that it will cut 3% to 4% of its workforce worldwide by next year when two of its top-patented drugs may face competition from the generic industry. The company, which will also shut down operations at a number of its facilities, expects to save $1.3 billion to $1.6 billion in the process. Johnson & Johnson, the world's leading health-products company, will eliminate almost 4,820 positions. Moreover, the company recently lowered its revenue-growth forecast for the current year. With competition from generic brands getting tougher for drug makers, job cuts are likely to continue.
The Doe Run Company announces new operations manager
The Doe Run Company has hired Bruce Chamberlain as operations manager for its Herculaneum, MO, smelting facility. Chamberlain will be responsible for managing the operational systems of the Herculaneum smelter and achieving the targeted environment, safety, quality, and cost goals. He will also work with the management to select and execute manufacturing projects that will improve operational performance. Chamberlain has more than 25 years of experience in the chemical engineering area and most recently served Bioteq Environmental Technologies as its operations manager.
